The Honorable Dr. Sekazi K. Mtingwa is an American physicist who has been serving as a part-time technical judge of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Atomic Safety and Licensing Board since 2016. He is also co-founder and principal consultant of Triangle Science, Education, and Economic Development (TriSEED Consultants) in North Carolina (United States), a consulting company that supports underrepresented groups in STEM. Dr. Mtingwa co-founded several societies and committees, such as the National Society of Black Physicists and the African Physical Society. Dr. Mtingwa has received numerous recognitions, including the American Physical Society’s 2017 Robert R. Wilson Prize for Outstanding Achievement in the Physics of Particle Accelerators for his work on intrabeam scattering. Dr. Mtingwa received his degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Princeton University. His research areas include nuclear, accelerator, and high-energy physics, as well as nuclear energy policy.
